You can make an application for renewal of your Tier 5 Creative & Sporting worker visa if you are already in the UK in the UK under Tier 5 Creative & Sporting worker visa category and you want to extend your stay (up to a maximum total stay of 12 months). Extension is possible only in those cases where the initial entry clearance or leave to enter as a Tier 5 Creative & Sporting worker was granted for less than 12 months and the applicant is seeking extension to stay up to a maximum of 12 months.

Eligibility

For you to seek extension of stay, you must continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Your eligibility for a Tier 5 (Temporary Worker - Creative and sporting) visa depends on whether you’re a sports person or a creative worker.

Sports person

If you are a sportsperson, you must be internationally established at the highest level in your sport, and/or your employment must make a significant contribution to the development and running of sport at the highest level in the UK.

If you are a coach, you must be suitably qualified to do the job.

You’ll also need all of the following:

  • a certificate of sponsorship reference number
  • £945 in savings - this is to prove you can support yourself and you must have had this in your bank account for 90 days before you apply. You won’t need £945 in savings if your fully approved (‘A-rated’) sponsor has stated on your certificate of sponsorship that they’ll certify your maintenance and that you won’t claim benefits during your stay.

Before assigning your certificate of sponsorship (CoS) in the sporting sub-category, your sponsor must have an endorsement for you from the governing body for your sport, which confirms you meet the governing body's requirements to give their endorsement. The governing body must be recognised by the Home Office, UKVI.

Creative worker

You need all of the following to be eligible for extension of stay as Tier 5 Creative & Sporting Worker:

  • make a unique contribution to the UK labour market, e.g. you are internationally renowned or are required for continuity
  • certificate of sponsorship reference number
  • be paid the minimum salary as set by Equity, PACT or BECTU (except for models, musicians or circuses)
